From Patrick O'Connor, the hybridizer, about the name Bayou Metairie: A historical bayou created by the Mississippi River that ran through Jefferson and Orleans Parishes, connecting to Bayou St. John and on to Lake Pontchartrain. Almost all of the bayou is filled in now.
